Backpacking Background:
I was raised by a family dedicated to car camping and lengthy day
hikes, but caught the wilderness bug toward the end of high school.
I generally do short (three to seven day) hikes in
backcountry/wilderness or near-wilderness conditions, primarily in
the Southeastern U.S. I have hiked portions of the AT and the
Cumberland and Pinhoti trails, and I routinely hike the Georgia and
Tennessee mountains and the Georgia piedmont and coast. I do a
great deal of hiking in moderately challenging terrain, which is wet
and/or very hot during much of the year. I am usually accompanied by
my husband and sometimes our dogs, and we hope to try horse camping
in the future.

The Primus Litech comes packaged in a mesh sack within a box. It's
a very compact kettle with a grey brushed satin finish, insulated
fold-around handles, a tiny spout, vent holes, and a small black
aluminum handle that rests nearly flush with the top of the lid.

I have tested the kettle in a variety of conditions in the
Southeastern U.S., primarily in coastal and mountain Georgia. I
purchased it originally a few days before embarking for a week-long
trip to Cumberland Island on the coast of Georgia, however, because
the local retailer recommended it. At the time, my husband was not
happy because the kettle cost far more than either the basic
aluminum or enamelware that we had been using.

While cookware is doesn't have to be high-tech, I have come to
appreciate the extraordinary intelligence behind the design of the
Primus Litech Trek Kettle and the very reasonable price that comes
attached to it. First, as with all hard anodized aluminum cookware,
the kettle is very light, yet also quite tough. The material
conducts heat well, which paid off for us on each trip in faster
heating times. Gauging heating times is somewhat difficult due to
the variety of items prepared in the pot, but water heated in the
pot on a Primus stove with no windscreen in a moderately heavy
breeze boiled in 5-7 minutes (the manufacturer claims that in
optimal conditions water will boil in three minutes). The squat
design and non-skid surface seem to have helped in this regard, as
well, since the base of the pot is extraordinarily wide. The fold-
around handles are insulated and moderately rugged, which combined
with the low-profile spout made the task of pouring tea after dark a
great deal less harrowing than with other pots.

Unlike most of our other cookware, the Primus Litech Trek Kettle has
come through numerous trips with no warping or damage – not even a
scratch! The only indication that it has been used at all is the
discoloration of the bottom from the flame. According to the
manufacturer, the pot is more hygienic than its competitors due to a
lack of porosity in the material and comparatively shallow
indentations in the surface, which equate to a non-stick surface.
While I have no idea how bacteria fares in the pot, I did notice
that the pot is easier to clean than most others. Food wipes right
out of it, but a good sand scouring has no discernible effect on the
finish.

Finally, the Primus Litech Trek Kettle is designed to save me pack
space and protect my other Primus gear. Namely, the 2207 fuel
canister (which is adequate for me for about a five-day trip)
nestles in the Trek Kettle, and all screw-on type Primus stoves (I
have a Technotrail) fit neatly in the top of the mesh drawstring
bag. I've found that this arrangement minimizes damage to my stove,
and keeps the three separate components to a very manageable size.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this stove. The
price is reasonable for what you get – a well-designed, easy-to-use,
lightweight and very resilient dinner pot.

Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing.

Hello Nicki and welcome to Backpackgeartest.org.

While we appreciate you posting two Owner Reviews (as per
the "Requirements to Become a Tester") we find it is more
advantageous and time saving to only run one through our Owner Review
Queue at a time. Once an Editor has picked up your first OR and
worked with you to complete the editing process you are welcome to
revise and resubmit your second. This way we can work with you on
addressing any standard BGT policy edits which you can incorporate
into your second and subsequent reviews before submission.

Additionally, if you feel like you would like some assistance with
this process, we do have a mentor program. If you are interested,
please post a message on the main list to Stephanie (ATTN: Stephanie)
requesting a mentor and we'll get you squared away.

Please also keep in mind all BGT operations are run by volunteers so
please be patient when posting to the list and regarding the editing
process.

Again welcome to the group.
